Bride Wars: A Review
January 24th 2009 11:46
I wanted to watch this because the movie poster with Anne Hathaway in a bridal gown somehow seemed so pure, so heavenly, so magical. And Kate Hudson doesn’t look too bad alongside Hathaway.
The movie started off pretty well and slowly descended into mayhem, uncontrolled anger, pointless scriptwriting and unnecessary add-ons.
The ending, scriptwise, was predictable and borderline cliché. And it was not done gracefully and beautifully, more abrupt and uncalled for; almost as if the producers spent all their money on using Hathaway and Hudson and left breadcrumbs for the scriptwriters to pick on.
The perky parts of the film, although funny, are extremely predictable and if you are looking for twists, you won’t find one. Some movies do well following the ‘tried and tested’ storylines but somehow Bride Wars seem to have a very convincing hook but extremely weak story and character development.
The only reason to watch it is to learn how wide Anne Hathaway mouth can stretch to when she smiles and sometimes in life, you don’t have to have it all together.
2 out of 5 stars.
