Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1: A Review
December 7th 2010 11:13
So here we go, Harry Potter 6... or 7? Can't even remember now...
Having read the book years ago, watching the movie made me feel that I've gone back in time when I was still a fresh grad, I could sort of relate to Harry Potter then, but sadly, maybe not anymore. Or I should say not as much.
Again, the nostalgia of the Harry Potter series comes back to haunt me everytime I sit down and watch a Harry Potter movie. The adventures, the love triangles, the maybes, the what-ifs, the jokes... It all seems very university like and college like - humans at the cusp of entering the real world.
But the layout and the movie, the script, the CGI, the props - all seem rather dated to me. Its scary how fast technology moves nowadays and even in the space of a year, a movie can look dated - what more 3 or given 4 years.
The experience of the movie itself is rather bland - there are exciting parts; but the feeling of "I've seen that before" burrows itself rather deeply in my mind when I watched the film.
There's nothing really special to talk about - there's some misguided passion, Ron sulks, Harry's going all psycho about saving the world and Hermione just trots along with her beautiful now Burberry-branded face.
It's good to watch it for the sake of nostalgia, but really, we need to move on already.
1.5 out of 5 stars.
