Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen: A Review
October 8th 2009 08:23
So, Transformers 2! Finally straggled my way into the mechanical world of the Autobots and the Decepticons to see the drama unfold. I was late also in watching the first one having to force a friend to watch it the second time for him, with me; not that he minded!
Anyway, so the question people always ask when you step out of a “Part Two” movie is “How does it compare to the first one?” I will usually go along the lines of “I don’t know” and BS my way through the conversation or I start comparing how the movie has improved; whether wardrobe wise and prop-wise (cause usually the first one comes out and has no budget, becomes a success and finds more money to improve their general ‘look’).
However, that cannot be said of “Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen”. The general ‘look’ and ‘feel’ and multi-million dollar CG effects in the form of transforming modes of vehicles is still the same. They probably made some of the animation even before the first movie was out.
So what have I got to say about the second modern Transformers movie?
First of all, it is a movie for everybody. Everybody here ranges from teenagers to young adults about 30; OK maybe let’s stretch it to 35, in short, the movie-going crowd. Whether you’re a self-professed geek or a fashion guru, you will like the film. I’m careful here; you won’t LOVE the movie but you will be able to go with the flow, forgive the quiet bits and anticipate the climatic bits.
You WILL be blown away by the computer graphics (although sometimes it can get a bit fake; look out for falling bricks! Just for them to disappear???); and you will be swept up in the grandeur of Optimus Prime; he is after all of some royal descent.
What I’m not sure about is the whole craze about Megan Fox; yes in some scenes she is hot but funnily enough she doesn’t distract the viewers (*ahem* boys) from the main story. Sure she runs around a bit and sure there is the cheesy love thing going on between her character Mikaela and Sam (Shia LeBouf) (e.g. Beauty and The Geek); but I guess that cements the fantasy of most of the audience which will be watching this movie. And yes, with that I do mean the Star Wars/Star Trek/Gundam fanatics, the IT gurus, the programmers and engineers.
At the end of the day, it is made for the masses and movies like this will always be made for the masses, bits and pieces here and there to keep a varied audience entertained and the ‘core’ target audience extremely glued.
4 out of 5 stars.
